How to Install
Google Earth on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus
Please refer following link Here
Here is what I get in my console after following the directions:
xz: (stdin): File format not recognized
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
I’ve checked xz-utils and it is already installed and updated. I also did a fresh install of Google earth according to the instructions here. Do you have any ideas what else I can do?
Hi Michael
May be some thing wrong with the Archive manager.Reinstall the Archive manager . Download the tar.xz file to some other folder then extract and copy the extracted files in to /opt/google/earth/free folder.
Update!
I got it to work by saving the tarball file in my downloads folder, rather than directly into google/earth/free.
Don’t know what difference that made but I’m glad it’s working.
It works fine in Ubuntu Mate 16.04
Thank you.
Hi Pulgar

After performing a routine in terminal (https://bkjaya.wordpress.com/2014/04/27/how-to-solve-blank-panoramio-photo-problem-in-google-earth-on-ubuntu-2/#content) my google earth STOPED WORKING. It just does not start at all. Do you have any sugestions. Mind you I am quite new at this ubuntu, so have mercy… ;D
Thank you sooooo much.
best regads Miha
Hi Miha
Could you tell me the Google Earth and Ubuntu versions you are using ?
B.K.Jayasundera
I’m using version 7.1.4.1529 on 64bit Lubuntu 14.04 and had this white window issue. Following the instructions here got the images to appear but a new issue has developed. The normal Google Earth shows blotches of pixellation, patches of incorrect colour, when zoomed in. This was not originally present.
Hi Matthew Hall
Please uninstall Google earth completely and re install and see weather the problem is solved. If the problem is not solved contact Amirpli amirli@gmail.com
